چکیده

The transition from low to high density 2D surface structures of copper porphyrins at a liquid/solid interface requires specific defects at which nearly all exchange of physisorbed molecules with those dissolved in the supernatant occurs.

Supramolecular chemistry at the liquid/solid interface probed by scanning tunnelling microscopy

The liquid/solid interface provides an ideal environment to investigate self-assembly phenomena, and scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) is one of the preferred methodologies to probe the structure and the properties of physisorbed monolayers on the nanoscale. Physisorbed monolayers are of relevance in areas such as lubrication, patterning of surfaces on the nanoscale, and thin film based orga...

Dynamic rearrangement of bilayers of porphyrin hetero-dimers at a solid/liquid interface.

STM reveals that self-assembled bilayers of covalently linked Cu-Mn porphyrin dimers can dynamically rearrange at a solid/liquid interface by rapid exchange of molecules between the bilayer and the supernatant, or via a slower two-dimensional translation of the whole top layer.

Monomer exchange dynamics of self-assembled surfactant monolayers at the solid-liquid interface.

Self-assembly of surface-active agents at solid–liquid interfaces is critical for many processes in nature and technology, including the stability of suspension, detergency, wetting and mineral separation. Historically, a detailed understanding of nanometer-scale layers has emerged. However, surprisingly little is known about their dynamics—the key to non-equilibrium phenomena. Even in equilibr...

Principles of molecular assemblies leading to molecular nanostructures.

Self-assembled physisorbed monolayers consist of regular two-dimensional arrays of molecules. Two-dimensional self-assembly of organic and metal-organic building blocks is a widely used strategy for nanoscale functionalization of surfaces. These supramolecular nanostructures are typically sustained by weak non-covalent forces such as van der Waals, electrostatic, metal-ligand, dipole-dipole and...
